Here are some older pictures of my aquarium. The latest picture is at the bottom of this page, and on the main page. Click any of these for a larger picture.
June 9, 1999: First picture of the tank (coinciding with my purchase of a new digital camera.) All of the plants look really green and healthy, largely because most of them have only been in there for a few days.
The large plant in the center is an Amazon Sword (Echinodorus Bleheri). It nearly outgrew the tank before it was eaten by algae.
June 27, 1999: Only a couple of weeks later, the tank has been nearly overcome by a nasty form of beard algae, probably caused by my tap water's high phosphate levels.
Believe it or not, this photo was taken after I removed as much algae as I could from the tank.
The three small plants at the front center are all that was left of the Amazon Sword from the above picture. I preserved the parts that weren't clogged with algae.
August 1, 1999: Once again, I removed all of the algae-choked plants, which turned out to be most of them, and added some new ones.
The Cabomba (left), Valisneria (back), and Anachris (right) were survivors from the old tank, and everything else is new.
New plants visible in this picture include a large Oriental Sword (right center), Pygmy Chain Sword (front), Java Fern (left), and Hygrophilia "Tropic Sunset" (right).
September 6, 1999: At last, the algae is somewhat under control. The huge bunch of Hygro "Tropic Sunset" on the left has grown from the two plants in the previous photo.
New plants visible here include Dwarf Sag (front center), Hornwort (back), Moneywort and Rotala Indica (back right), and Pearlweed (front right).
The red-leaved plant at dead center is the Oriental Sword from the previous photo. It has switched to its submersed form.
January 1, 2000: The plants are still growing like crazy, and I don't see much algae these days.
No new plants here, but the existing ones have exploded with growth. Note especially the huge shrub of H. Micranthemoides on the right front, which grew from the few tiny plants in the previous picture.
The Pennywort on the top of the tank has also grown like crazy, which is the reason for the black shadow on the front right corner.
